The Kalypto Forefoot wound dressing is ideal for hard to treat wounds on the foot.  Foot wounds have been historically difficult to treat. Multiple curves coupled with walking made it difficult to create an environment conducive to healing. Many times these are categorized as non-healing wounds. That is, until now.

The Kalypto foot wound dressing is designed for the forefoot (toe area). It creates an envelope type wound dressing which the front of the foot is placed. The dressing can be concealed in a large sock, or wrapped with an ace-bandage type material.
Preparing the foot for wound dressing is the same as for any other non healing wound. Once prepared, the dressing is applied according to the instructions. Most wound dressing applications are completed in less than 15 minutes. This is remarkable considering the complex curvatures of the foot.
Because of the unique way that the dressing is applied, along with the pocket size pump, many patients who would not have ordinarily been a candidate for NPWT can now benefit from it. Very often foot wounds are deemed not to be a candidate for negative pressure because the clinician does not believe it possible to achieve a proper seal on the wound dressing. That was then…

With the Kalypto, negative pressure wound dressing of the foot is not only possible, but easy. In addition, patients prefer it.

  • Pocket Sized Pump
  • No collection canister (you can’t see it / smell it)
  • Dressing designed for the foot

From the patient’s perspective, they are not required to carry a heavy wound pump with them. From our experience, patients tend to become self conscious about carrying wound pumps due to the collection canister and possible odors. The Kalypto wound vacuum eliminates that issue as there is no collection canister.  In addition, the wound pump runs on AA batteries which eliminate the need to recharge it every few hours. One set of batteries can last for up to three weeks.  Finally, the pump itself is pocket size. It’s a little larger than a smart phone and can be worn on the belt or put in your pocket.

Negative pressure wound therapy has been a proven technology for non-healing wounds. With the introduction of the Kalypto Forefoot wound dressing a new groups of patients can now benefit from vacuum therapy.
The Kalypto foot wound dressing is designed for wounds that product up to 140cc of fluid per day. If the wound is producing more, then the underlying cause should be addressed before applying Kalypto.
