Hospitals & Medicare Competitive BiddingPatients that are being discharged from an acute care hospital, and require medical equipment before leaving, will need to be sent to a Medicare contracted supplier as of January 1, 2011. However, it's in your patients best interest to begin using contracted suppliers now. We believe that it is a hospitals best practice to begin using contracted suppliers immediately, and not to wait for the program to begin. Doing so will prevent your patients from going through a “Medicare grandfathering process" where the current non-contracted supplier decides whether or not to keep them on service in January. Further, as non-winning contractors downsize and remove themselves from this area service interruptions may result. You can avoid these issues be using only suppliers who are contracted. To ensure your supplier is contracted, ask to see their notification from CMS. Ours is here.
