Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. It provides health care coverage for more than six million low-income children and families as well as elderly, blind, or disabled individuals. Medi-Cal is jointly funded by the state and federal government, and administered by the California Department of Health Care Services. People enroll in Medi-Cal through their county social services department.

Medi-Cal covers home medical equipment when it is prescribed by a physician, medically neccessary, and all of their coverage criteria are met.

Medi-Cal uses a Treatment Authorization Request system for mose medical devices. This means that your medical records that pertain to the need for equipment will be forwarded to Medi-Cal's regional office for review. This process can take between 14 and 90 days.
