Most patients receive a pulse oxymetry test. This is a probe that is attached to your finger. It measures the amount of oxygen in your blood. This test can be done in your physicians office or at the hospital. It is a painless test and takes only a few minutes. Your doctor may order overnight oxymetry. For this test you will sleep with a wrist watch like device that records your pulse oxymetry overnight. We will pick up the oxymeter, and the results are processed by an outside laboratory. Your physician will receive the results and advise you accordingly.
Some patients are given an Arterial Blood Gas test (ABG). This test involves drawing blood from an artery and testing the oxygen level. This test is required by Medi-Cal.
