Wheelchairs

A chair that helps you get around your home when walking is hard. Some you push yourself. Some someone else pushes. Some have a motor. A Diamond technician delivers every chair — manual, transport, and power — to your home across Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties, and sets it up. Power chairs we fit.

Will insurance cover it?

Medicare, most major health plans, and managed care cover a wheelchair when your doctor documents that you need it to move around in your home. Power chairs have extra rules. We request the order from your doctor's office. We check your specific plan and tell you what's covered before anything is delivered. Nothing here is a guarantee.

How fast can I get it?

A technician delivers and sets up the chair at your home. We'll call you to schedule once we have the order from your doctor.

What will I owe?

We tell you before delivery, not after. If there's a copay or a deductible on the chair, or on cushions, footrests, or batteries, you'll hear it from us on the phone first.

What we carry

We carry chairs you sit in to get around your home.

Transport chairs are lighter. Someone else pushes you. We stock Medline steel, Medline aluminum with 12-inch wheels, Medline Ultra Light 19-inch, and Drive lightweight.

Standard and lightweight manuals have big rear wheels, so you can push yourself. We stock the Drive Manual Wheelchair.

Bariatric chairs are built for more weight and a wider seat. We stock the Medline 24-inch.

Reclining chairs let the back go back if you need to rest in the chair.

Power chairs have a motor. We stock the Pride Jazzy Carbon and the Jazzy 600 ES. We bring those to your home and fit them.

Scooters are on the shop. This page is chairs.

Footrests and cushions wear out. Call us when you need more. If the chair on your order is different, we'll tell you.

Do I own or rent this equipment?

We’ll confirm whether your wheelchairs is rented or purchased and what that means month to month before delivery.

What to expect at delivery & setup

A Diamond technician brings the chair to your home at a scheduled time and sets it up. Every chair — manual, transport, and power.

Power chairs we fit. Someone from Diamond checks that it fits through the doors you actually use, and shows you the joystick, the brakes, and the charger.

Manual chairs and transport chairs we set up too. They show you the brakes, the footrests, and how it folds.

We'll call you to schedule once we have the order. This is not a box on the porch. Do not plan on picking a wheelchair up at the office.

Before we arrive

Measure the doorway you will use most. Have a place to store the chair — folded or not. Tell us about steps, thresholds, or a ramp. If you have pets, please have them in a safe place if someone from Diamond is coming inside.

Need help with your wheelchairs?

Call (800) 977-3002 Mon–Thu 8:00–5:00, Fri 7:00–4:00 Pacific

Office hours, not the 24/7 oxygen line. If a tire is flat, a brake will not lock, a power chair will not charge, or the sling or seat is torn, call (800) 977-3002 during the hours above. We can walk you through a brake or a charger on the phone. Phone is faster than email for equipment problems.

Cushions, footrests, and batteries are supplies. They are not the chair rental. There is a resupply form on the site. Supplies for chairs are ordered by calling us.

  • Something is broken or not working right → call, don't email. Phone is faster for equipment problems.

Common questions about wheelchairs

Do I need a prescription for a wheelchair?

Yes. A wheelchair is ordered by your doctor. If you don't have an order yet, call us at (800) 977-3002 and we'll request it from your doctor's office. Power chairs often need a face-to-face visit and extra paperwork. We handle that request.

How quickly can I get a wheelchair?

A technician delivers and sets up the chair at your home. We'll call you to schedule once we have the order from your doctor.

Will Medicare pay for it?

Usually, when your doctor documents that you need it to move around in your home. Power chairs have extra rules. That's what we request from your doctor's office. This applies to Medicare and to most other insurance. If there's any issue with your coverage, our team will be in touch to talk it through with you. Nothing here is a guarantee.

Do I own the wheelchair or rent it?

It depends on your plan and the chair. Medicare often rents a standard manual or power wheelchair for 13 months; after those months are paid, it is yours. Some transport chairs, and some other plans including IEHP, may purchase from the start. We check yours first. See “Do I own or rent this equipment?” above.

What's the difference between a transport chair and a wheelchair?

A transport chair is for when someone else pushes you. It is lighter and folds smaller. A manual wheelchair has big rear wheels, so you can push yourself. Your doctor's order names which one.

What's the difference between a power chair and a manual chair?

A manual chair you push, or someone pushes for you. A power chair has a motor and a joystick. Power chairs have extra coverage rules and we bring them to your home to fit. Scooters are a different product — they are on the shop; this page is chairs.

Will it fit through my doorway?

Often, but not always. Measure the doorway you will use most and tell us the width. We ask about doorways, thresholds, and a ramp before a power chair goes out. If a chair will not fit, we talk through options before it is delivered.

Can I travel with it?

Many manual and transport chairs fold for a car. Power chairs are heavier — ask us before you travel. Airlines and TSA treat medical devices as medical devices. Call the airline if you're flying, and keep this number: (800) 977-3002.

What if something is broken?

Call (800) 977-3002 during office hours — Mon–Thu 8:00–5:00, Fri 7:00–4:00 Pacific. Flat tire, brake, charger, sling, or seat. Don't email first. Phone is faster for equipment problems.
